Arsenal could lose Alexis Sanchez for free

Burnley v Arsenal - Premier League

The Chilean is in the final year of his contract and has refused to negotiate a new deal so far. The 28-year old almost joined Manchester City in the summer with the Citizens matching Arsenal's asking price. However, the London side failed to sign a replacement on deadline day and eventually, pulled the plug on the deal.

In the months after transfer deadline day, Sanchez has not signed a new contract and now Wenger is looking to cash in on the player in January instead of losing him for free next summer. However, the Arsenal manager's wish might not come true with each of the superstar's suitors willing to wait until the summer.

Manchester City continue to remain interested in the player, but are at a disadvantage when compared to the foreign clubs. This is because Pep Guardiola's side cannot agree a pre-contract with Sanchez due to the possible domestic complications. On the other hand, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) do not have the same constraint.

While this spells bad news for Manchester City, Arsenal will be hoping the player moves out of England if he is set to leave, instead of strengthening a rival. Reports currently point to PSG being ahead of the queue as they are willing to pay his wage demands of £350,000 per week, which is expected to be higher than whatever Bayern and Manchester City will offer.

Different elements in this saga are set to make Sanchez's transfer the one to watch in the coming year.
