Massive landslide in Nepal

At least six persons have been killed when a massive landslide blocked Sunkoshi River at Mankha VDC in Sindhupalchowk district on Saturday morning.


As per Republica newspaper of Nepal "Over 2 dozen house including a school swept way by the landslide before it completely blocked a portion of Sunkoshi river at Ramche-5 in the district on Saturday morning, police informed. The mudslide that occurred at around 3 pm near Jure Bazaar has completely stopped the flow of the river causing risk of flooding around 20 KM near by area around the incident site.

According to area police Barabishe, Inspector Jayshwor Rimal, water level has been rapidly rising and the river has become more like a huge pool in the area. Terrified people living around 20 kilometers of the area including Barabishe, Lamosanghu, Khadichaur, Sukute, which face the risk of inundation, have left their houses seeking safer places. Tourists who were there for the weekend have been evacuated to safer places, said police."
